For the last four weeks I have been taking Alex to a Gymnastics class for 2-year-olds. I took Lucas to a similar class when he was 2 so I was really excited. The first week my crutch, i.e. the GPS, led us to her class. When I saw the building... well let's just say my first impressions weren't so good. It appeared to be a large box with no windows, a torn up parking lot and paint that needed a touch-up. But I trusted my crutch and parked the van. We found a door on the side, with one small peek-a-boo window and went inside. Sure enough this was the place.
The class was held in, well lets call it a multi-purpose room. There was a stage, lots of folding metal chairs, once again no windows but there was also plenty of mats, beams and rings. I knew we were in the right place.
A class with two-year-olds is an interesting thing. In our class we had the screamer, the clinger, and the know it all. Luckily Alex didn't fall into any of these categories. The screamer was a cute little boy with the highest pitch scream I have ever heard. I heard it a lot as he would run around the room squealing while the rest of us tried to not stare as his mom as she desperately ran after him. The clinger was interesting. During rotation she would do the different routines with mom by her side of course... but any time she was singled out for any reason her legs and limbs lost all ability to move on their own. I have never seen anyone able to bend and flop and have absolutely no ability to move so suddenly. Then there was the know-it-all. Before the first class began she was already saluting, pointing her toes and making sure we all knew how good she was... okay she probably wasn't thinking this, she is only two after all; but you know the type.
Alex did enjoy herself. She excelled at the bars, she is my tank and very strong after all. But she somehow inherited my aversion to somersaults and the poor girl just had no idea how to go about them.
Overall, it was a great experience and while we won't be taking the class over and over again like most of the participants I am glad we went.
