What I do read every single day is kids books. I have always loved reading to my kids. I would much rather read then drive cars or play another game of hide and seek. And luckily my kids like being read to.
So every Wednesday, this is my goal at least, I will pick one of our favorite stories either from the past or present and write up a quick review. My kids are 4 and 2 so the books I will be talking about are for kids around that age range.
For my first selection I decided to choose the first book that I remember Lucas truly liking and asking for when he was just a little over a year old. We checked it out at the library once and then he always wanted it. We ended up buying it. It is Zoom City by Thacher Hurd.
Zoom City is full of bright... well almost psychedelic colors-which probably added to it's appeal. The first time I read it kind of reminded me of the pink elephant scene in Dumbo, if you know what I mean. It is full of cute rhymes and pictures of dogs driving cars.
My favorite line: "Faster, faster, watch out too fast! Crash! Disaster!"
It is a extremely quick read and one that can easily be memorized.

We found this one on the bookshelf again today and Lucas, who is now 4, wanted me to read it to him several times. It will probably always be one of his favorites.
I am reading...v.e.r.y. ... s.l.o.w.l.y. ... The Work and the Glory. I have told Kristin if I could just sit and read I could read the book I am on in about 3 days. I hardly ever read to Ryan. Shame on me. And it is sooo simple and quiet. usually!
ReplyDeleteLoved reading your blog! Reading to your kids is great. I always love when one of my favorite kid books is featured on "Reading Rainbow" or on a must-read list. It makes me feel very accomplished. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love reading but have mommy-induced ADD. It's hard to concentrate when you have kids demanding your attention, or just plain exhaustion.
