"Just two more bites"
"If you eat it all gone, you can have a cookie"

These and even more ridiculous statements might be heard around our dinner table on an
Some parents like to enlist the help of some tricks to get their kids to eat their vegetables. Anyone read Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld? Or they might try dressing up the vegetables by making little shapes/creatures/faces with them. Or dipping sauces, anything is better dipped right?
So knowing this, and having lived this battle for a few years now; I thought I was being a great mother by buying some frozen broccoli that came with cheese on it. Mmmm cheese.
I scoop some of this delicious cheesy broccoli on each child's plate and then the chorus of praises for being a wonderful mother begin!
Oh wait, back up.. that was my delusion. What did I hear?
"I don't like broccoli with cheese. It smells. I want plain broccoli."
LOL you crack me up!! Yup...my Fox..wicked picky eater..never happy with anything. Nonni..if it does not move she will try it and more often than not like it!!! Hang in there....try ranch for dipping trees in.....
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sarah
My daughter pulled the EXACT same crap on me the other day. I eat broccoli like there is no tomorrow and try to convince her she loves it as much as I do. The other day we were out of broccoli and guess what she requests?
ReplyDeleteMy husband was optimistic: "look you finally got to her!"
I love broccoli so does my son. We eat it plain just steamed. My son doesn't like cheese. He's weird. lol
ReplyDeleteYes I have tried it all too, But will stick with, If you want the main course you will eat your veggies first. at least on nights when I serve broccoli.
ReplyDeleteLOL That is classic. :) Oh but we love our kids, right? Even when they do things like that. ;)
ReplyDeleteEmily I was sooo picky as a kid. I turned my nose up at so many things. My mom just kept on cooking those things. I mean she cooked things that I liked too. Just not all the time. I love all sorts of veggies now. I love all sorts of foods. Keep it up. They will not starve and they may develop a taste for broccoli with or without cheese!
ReplyDeleteCurses foiled again!
ReplyDeleteTee-Hee! Children are crazy, I can honestly say i CAN wait ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny Em. If Maddie had been there, she would have loved your cheesy broccoli! :)
ReplyDeleteUGH!! I HATE THAT!
ReplyDeleteAnd that plain goes down the drain....LOL
ReplyDeleteNow that daddy is no longer home during the week we may or may not be subsisting solely on cheese tortillas and apple slices. (The only meal my kids will all eat.)
ReplyDeleteIt's just too much work to make a gourmet dinner that only I will eat.
LOL! No winning is right. Bribery seems to have the strongest effect around here, but only on the third Thursday after the first full moon of the second quarter of the year :P
ReplyDeleteSadly, that's because it does smell. I bought it once and refused to touch it!
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding something that works for you!
