Household Rules

Every family has their rules. Things they like to do, ways they like to do things. Eric and I definitely have the final say, but we do like to let our kids have some input. I had an interesting conversation with Lucas about this the other day.

Setting: We were loading the groceries into the car. Lucas had gotten into his seat while I was in the back loading the last few bags.

Lucas: "Can we make the rules?"
Me: "You can help make them since you are part of our family. But Mom and Dad have to right to veto or say no to a rule."
Lucas: "Why?"
Me: "Because we are older and have lived for a longer time and understand some things a little more. Plus, we are responsible for you guys. If something bad happened to you or Alex, we could get in trouble."
Lucas: "So can we make the rules?"
Me: "Yep, you can help us make them."
Lucas: "So we'll make the rules when we get home?"

It was at this point in the conversation when I realized Lucas was saying rolls not rules. He wanted to make the cinnamon rolls we had just purchased.

  2. I hope the rules were yummy.

I love having the kids help make the rules. no burping at the table is one that they came up with and followed to a "T". Unless you say excuse me.

  5. Those are my kind of rules. I think every household needs both kinds of rules frequently. A reminder of what the rules are, and frequent cinnamon rolls to help remind.
