In Your Town

My mom grew up in Rockford, IL. Her brother lived there for many years after she had moved away. We would often go to visit him and go to fun places around town. I remember several times my uncle commenting, 'I have never even gone to these places until now'.

Isn't it sad that the things in our own backyards we often never see?

Now living in Southern California there is a lot to do, and also a lot of money to spend to do most of those things. The trick is finding the free things.

While my parents were here, we did just that.

In Escondido this is a Park called Queen Califia's Magical Circle Garden. It is a giant sculpture that was built and left for the children of a city by a French artist, who lived the last years of her life in Southern California. There is a maze, and lots of giant sculptures it was a lot of fun, and a lot of fun being there with my camera of course.

My nieces and kids at the entrance of the park

The snake is eating her hand!

Mirrors and mazes--oh so fun!

What fun things have you found in your town?

  1. When we moved from Dallas to Austin, I was so sad about missing all the things we never got around to doing. I now want to go back to visit so that we can make up for not doing them during the 9 years we lived there.

  2. Wow that place looks really fun. I love how colorful eveyrthing is. It makes for really great photos. I live near Diamond Mines and some great fishing spots on the delta. I also enjoy walking around the piers and window shopping in San Francisco.

  3. Cool park! I think I've done better in Las Vegas than in other places I've lived (esp. because there aren't THAT many kid-friendly things to do here!) j/k I agree, the intersection of time and money make a big difference, and free is best.

  6. This looks like a lot of fun! We have a Discovery Center and an old civil war area that the kids love too. Its not as colorful as this but there are tractors so they're happy. LOL

  7. It's so true that you forget about the neat things in the area you live to do because you live there. Even when I lived in FL, the novelty of the beach wore off and now I wish I'd gone more since I'm back in cold IL with no beaches!

  8. That is really fun! I still regret not going to the carousel that only cost $1.00 when I lived in Ames, Iowa. I want to go back and see what other cool things I missed!

  9. That looks like a neat place to visit.

Ummm there is nothing to do in my town.

Well, unless you count the McDonalds playhut/indoor play area/or whatever it is called. (But even it's getting a little boring)
