Sugar

I recently took Alex for her well-check (90% weight; off-chart in height--big girl). I dropped Lucas off at a friends house. When I returned she said, I had to tell you, my boys were eating some of their gingerbread houses and offered some to Lucas and he said "'no I can't have sugar'. So I just wanted to let you know he did a great job following your rules."

I sat there for a minute stumped and amused... that isn't one of our rules I informed her. He probably just didn't think he would like the gingerbread so that is what he said.

But maybe he really is learning that sugar isn't the best.

On Saturday after everyone did a great job cleaning, we went out for ice cream and got some donuts while we were out too. That evening after dinner the following conversation ensued:
Eric: "Maybe we'll even have donuts for breakfast tomorrow."
Lucas: "You're tricking! We can't do that!"
Eric: "No I'm serious."
Lucas: "But donuts are too sugary for breakfast."
Eric: "Donuts are sugary, but just one donut along with something healthy would be okay this one time."
Lucas: "Yes cinnamon & sugar toast and a donut would be great!"

Well.... he almost has it.This is the boy who turned down the sugar??

  1. Wow, what an awesome kid! It sounds like he is figuring something out that takes most people into adulthood before they can figure it out. But of course frosting doesn't count as sugar.

  2. My son does similar things...he is trying to be healthier - he informed me...I figure he is reading my blog...but he is not always sure exactly what that means...yet.

Frosting is a basic food group isn't it....nothing better than frosting our of a can...yum...I do not keep it in my house for that reason...if we do have it I have to get rid of it...my weakness.

  3. I read that and thought...since when? hahaha. Kristin would always say, "no thank you" when she was that age. Now she will say. "No. I'm good."

  4. That is really funny Em. And what a great picture. Ethan would be too worried about dirty hands to stick them in the frosting like that, but Madeline would be all over it.

  5. Wow! I have switched my kids after dinner dessert of sugary popsicles with 100% fruit juice popsicles... the only thing they have noticed is they say they taste better than before! I'm slipping one thing in on them at a time. My 4 year old daughter adapts pretty easily but my 10 year old son.. not so much.

  8. Sounds like he might have heard something from one of his friends, or tv? It's too (literally) sweet of him.

  9. LOL you're probably right about him being afraid he wouldn't like it. I still make excuses sometimes!

  14. It depends on what form the sugar comes in. Everyone to his or her own taste.

Have they been talking about healthy eating at preschool lately?
