The weather was perfect. Lots of golden sun, little or no wind and temperatures in the mid 70's. So when the kids asked to watch a show, I sent them outside instead. It was perfect; Lucas and Alex were outside playing nicely together their musical giggles floating through the screen door, Ryder was down for his nap-momma time! It was the perfect time to edit some pictures.
I heard the kids turn the hose on, filling up a bucket on the porch. I decided it would be fine, we didn't have anywhere else to go today and sometimes it is best to say yes.
"Shh, don't tell mom. Let's just sneak it"- I hear Lucas say from the the back porch.
Alex comes running through the house and into the garage and then out the garage door back into the backyard.
At this moment I had two choices. One-to stop my editing and see what those two were up to. Two-keep editing and give my kids the chance to make the right choice. (Yes, Eric laughed at me hysterically when I recalled the events) Besides, they were playing outside how much damage could they cause?
I heard the hose turn on again. The sound of their sprinkler beating back and forth, but wait there was another noise.
"Oh no, turn it off" I hear Lucas yell while running.
I turn around to see water spraying through the screen door soaking my curtain hanging there.
Needless to say both kids had to come inside and clean up the now giant puddle consuming my kitchen floor.
Moral of the story-no matter what I am doing, I will never again ignore the words "don't tell mom, let's just sneak it."
LOL!!! I so have heard those words before too and they send me running. I think it's funny how kids don't think their parents know what they are up too (I was the same way) and they always are amazed when you find them in the act!
ReplyDeleteHope your curtains survived! :)
LOL! I know it's terrible, but I never give my kids the benefit of doubt!! I know that no matter what they are doing, it's almost always something I would say no to.
ReplyDeleteI hope they learned their lesson!
LOL Those sound like dangerous words!
ReplyDeletehaha. I hate it when I ignore their whispers. I always pay for it!
ReplyDeleteI like how he sent Alex to do the dirty work. Hahaha. It could have been so much worse. I am glad it wasn't.
ReplyDeleteThose are code words for get to them now, before they set the house on fire, around here. Glad it was only water!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Oh dear.
ReplyDeleteMy clue is always when my boys get quiet...then I know they are up to something.
LOL - wise words indeed, Emmy!
ReplyDelete"Sh, don't tell mom."
ReplyDeleteWow, those are frightening words. But I am sure they had a lot of fun and will never forget it, right? I think sometimes the messes are worth the memories, though it is hard to not get upset at something like that.
Yes, definitely at least peek at the sneak!
ReplyDeleteLast time I heard those words, my kids were using an entire BRAND NEW package of baby wipes to "clean" the floor and dog kennel. While it probably would have only taken 5 wipes to completely clean the supposed "mess" they wasted an ENTIRE package.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer when my children ask permission, and give me a chance to say "yes". Saves Mommy a heck of a lot of frustration in the end.
Uh oh! That is sooooo funny! I always need to stop them in their tracks if I hear the hose! TROUBLE
ReplyDeleteSeriously, how did that phrase not send terror through your heart!!!???
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking the same thing as Jenners!! LOL
ReplyDeleteYeah dont tell mom would have caught my attention right away..I would have at least peaked at them for fear of what they were doing lol
ReplyDeleteI do that all the time-am I gonna get up and stop it before it begins or am I going to deal with it later? I always regret the second one.
