Growing up I didn't really like driving in the car with my dad. Not only did he drive.... cautiously, but he always listened to talk radio. Talk radio! How can an tween put up with such a thing?? During one drive someone named Paul Harvey came on the air and it caught my attention and before I knew it I looked forward to going somewhere with my dad Saturday afternoons so I could hear Paul Harvey's segment called "The Rest of the Story". There would always be a twist and a surprise to end the story.
Last Friday I told you all about or little get-away to Las Vegas-you can read about it by clicking here- and today, like Paul Harvey, I am going to tell the rest of the story.
Remember this picture?Sweet-loving kind children.
The rest of the story: immediately before this picture they were fighting and declaring that they did not want to be by each other.
And this picture..
The rest of the story: Alex had to be carried or pushed in the stroller up to this level as her her "leg hurt" or "it itched" or whatever excuse she came up with at the time which lead to her screaming and kicking on floor.
And the fun we had swimming here...
The Rest of the Story: Alex refused to leave the lazy river-literally jumping back in four times only to result in us going back to our room instead of the big pool as was planned-which lead to a meltdown from Lucas too of course.
And this cute guy...I did mention how he got sick and threw up our last day but...
The Rest of the Story: The night before he lost his avocado he cried or tossed and turned all night and pretty much did not sleep at all unless Eric or I was holding him. Eric literally slept sitting up in bed holding him for about a hour.
So in the words of Paul Harvey "And now you know the rest of the story"
Isn't there always "the rest of the story" with kids? Wouldn't it be nice if things always went as planned and as picture perfect as in our photographs? Looks like you still had fun, and how nice to get away with your family!
ReplyDeleteNow one of these days you'll have to post the after picture and then follow up with photos which detail the rest of the story! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to listen to Paul Harvey sometimes. He had an interesting way of doing things.
HA! Yep, there are always twists and turns to every story! That Paul Harvey is so smart!
ReplyDeleteYou could never tell all that from the pictures! It's good to have pictures so you can remember the good times of the vacation :)
ReplyDeleteThat is usually how it goes, and despite all that, it still usually is fun anyway. That IS one funny thing about blogs, they often don't show "the rest of the story"
ReplyDeleteMy kids are the same way, bfs one second and enemies the next. :)
Oh Alex you little stinker you. It's funny how pictures only tell part of the story. Thanks for keeping it real. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love it! Thank you for sharing "the rest of the story."
ReplyDeleteSeriously, there is ALWAYS more to it than you'd imagine. :)
I love this post. Of course we always capture and show the good pictures, but the ones leading up to those pictures are what the memories are really about, aren't they??
ReplyDeleteGreat "rest of the story"s. So...I wanna know...what are the older ones looking at in the second picture?
ReplyDeleteOH you have got to be kidding! What is the deal with vacations and pukers? It is so so wrong!! Bailey broke his toe while we were riding the big bike on Coronado island! I need a vacation do-over!
ReplyDeleteHa! There is always more it than what meets the eye.
ReplyDeleteAhh, real life doesn't pause just because we're on vacation, no?
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is feeling much better now (no itchy legs or anything :)
Rush limbaugh (sp?) and NPR new talk radio we're childhood when driving with dad. So boring!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was a really clever/cute version of "the rest of the story".
ReplyDeleteNice to know it's not constant rainbows and butterflies on your trips, too! ;)
LOVE your perspective!
ReplyDeleteSoooo, Eric's sleeping anywhere skills paid off ;)
ReplyDeleteThis brings me back to riding the school bus and how our driver use to listen to Paul Harvey.
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative post... I love knowing 'the rest of the story' ;)
Ha! That was cute how you gave the behind the scenes take of what really happened. My mom listened to Paul Harvey and I hated it. It was so boring!
ReplyDeleteYes, trips with the family can be challenging. My boys never sleep well.
That was perfect! There is usually always more to the story then we see in the precious pics
ReplyDeleteSounds like normal family life to me.
ReplyDeleteI love the rest of the story. Sometimes we only tell the good parts. Not what really happened.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you need a vacation from your vacation. I know how that feels! I love vacation, I really do.... but they really are a lot of extra work (specially on Mommy!) Still sounds like you all had a great time together! Making memories is wonderful!
