Usually it's six weeks... this time only about four. What am I talking about? How much notice we have before our moves. With my husband's employment we move about every two and a half years... we knew it was coming up. There had been rumors as to where we would be going and now we know for sure.... but before I get to that (gotta love the suspense) first a recap of Ryder's birthday!
We enjoyed lunch at Chuck-E-Cheese. This was really more for the bigger kids than Ryder-- and for mom and dad who didn't want to make any more dirty dishes as the kitchen was all clean for the party.
That evening family joined us for the celebration.
There was lots of good food
And of course cake (which I made)
He sort of poked at it at first , then picked off little pieces of frosting. He liked it but really wasn't too excited either way about it.
It was a fun evening and it was sad to think it might be one of the last times that we get together with all of the family like that.
Though (yes the tease is over) we will only be moving either 1 or 1 1/2 hours away. Yes, we are moving in a month and yes we don't know for sure where yet. Eric's next project is only a one year job in a little town (about two hours away without traffic) that we have no desire to live in. So we are going to move to the not so crappy town 30 minutes from the job...but his company is going after another big project about a hour away which he may end up on after this job. So we are contemplating splitting the distance (sort of) between these two jobs so we don't have to move again in one year.
We now have one month to get rid of a bunch of stuff, get things cleaned, find a place to live and move in addition to all of the end of the school year stuff.
Yea, wish me luck.
How many times have your moved in your life?
What a great birthday for Ryder!! Happy Birthday! I love that picture of him (is that a bike? or stroller) Anyways it's cute! I've gotta get ready for my sons 3rd coming up..I have no idea what to do and not a lot of money to spend!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move..movings terrible

It's funny we were actually just talking about this yesterday. Jer and I have moved 7 times in the 4 years we've been married. Of course several of those had to do with hurricane Ike, but I sure hope its not a pattern for our lives! I'm amazed at how quickly you have to move. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I still haven't figured out how to turn on that email response thing yet. Sorry!
First, Happy Birthday, Ryder! I'm so happy that you are in this world, little guy!
ReplyDeleteAnd second, what a crazy little life you have, I can't imagine moving that often! Good for you for being so positive about it!
Thanks for the great pics of the birthday. Loved seeing them all. How can we help with the move? Let me know!
ReplyDeleteLALALALALALALA--Not listening! LALALALALA
ReplyDeleteThe birthday was lots of fun. Glad we could be there.
Cute, cute, cake Missy!! Glad you don't have to move too far away, at least the packing and unpacking won't be so bad.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute cake!! Looks like Ryder enjoyed his big day. Moving every 2.5 years? Nothankyou! Good luck getting everything together.
ReplyDeleteRyder is too cute! Happy Birthday :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move.
Can you forward the email with what you wanted for the giveaway to me. I lost all of my emails :( Plus your snail mail addy and I will get it out in the mail by Wednesday!
I have both the boy and girl sets done, just need to do the pacifier leash.
Em, he is just too cute!!! Love that little bike he's on!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move. I've moved 16 times in my life. I HATE MOVING!!
Wow that is alot of moving! I've moved a few times when I was younger, and then once for college, to NYC, but my husband and I just moved to the country! We love it and are enjoying the beauty around us and trying to minimize the stress of moving, me finding a job etc. We don't have kids yet, but a puppy, I think she'll do well with the open yard! I don't know how you do it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great celebration!
ReplyDeleteAnd moving? In the past 25 years, I've moved twelve times...the longest I stayed anywhere was four years. I'm approaching three years here.
I spent the weekend cleaning out years of stuff from the garages. Boxes that haven't been opened in decades.
ReplyDeleteMoving is no fun, but it does have a built-in "anti-clutter" advantage.
Compared to you I've hardly moved at all! Oh man. 4 times. LOL! That's it!
ReplyDeleteRyder is such a cutie! i can't believe it's been a year already!!
ReplyDeleteYikes. That's not much notice at all. Do you have to sell your house, or does Eric's company take care of that??
I've moved a lot if you include moving to and from school each year. i've only had a few major moves in my life (4).
Cute birthday boy! As for the move, good luck. We've moved 7 times in our 6 year marriage and we're already planning move number 8.
ReplyDeleteOur moves were fast like that too. We found out we were moving from WA over Christmas and were here three weeks later. It's both good and bad to do it fast, I think. Lots of stress, but hopefully everything works out! Make sure you tell me when you know where exactly you'll be going (as if you wouldn't) :)
ReplyDeleteAnd RYDER!!! Happy Birthday to a cute boy! Wow! The cake looks darling too!
Hi Emmy, Nice blog! How to add the Glitter Effect Mouse Pointer to your Blog
ReplyDeleteLove the cake. Love the little bike he is on. Little shade on top. So cute.
ReplyDeleteI've moved 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. I'm hoping we have no more than 2 moves left. And when i say 2 I really hope I mean 1. And when I say 1, I am talking about when we can't walk up the stairs in this house anymore and get to move into a party dorm for the old folks. Playing wii sports and cards in the library and such.
bummer about the move.
ReplyDeletei lived in the same house my whole childhood. looking back i am grateful for that. i moved out when i went to college...so 18 yrs in the same house was awesome. i have friends i made as a toddler who are still friends today.
as an adult i have moved about 10 times all within a 100 mile radius.
good luck on the house hunt!!
Ryder deserves to be spoiled. All that cuteness deserves a reward.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the cake!!
And it is a bummer that you have to move so often. I would say that we moved about 5 times when I was kid, which seemed like a lot to me. But we often would change schools without actually moving our house.
I guess you learn to live "lightly" so you can pick up and go when you have to. Good luck doing everything!
Good luck with the move! I don't think I'd handle the short notice very well!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your big boy! Time for another one! ;-) Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the move, but it sounds like your not surprised by it. I hope everything comes together so you don't have to move again in a year.
That is the cutest cake! I love it! And I am right there with you. I hate moving. Good luck with everything.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move. I've moved a lot too (though it has stopped since I got married). I categorize my moves like this:
ReplyDeleteMy pre-USA life: I moved a lot, but was much too young to remember how many times
Ages 7-21: I lived in 8 different houses
Ages 21-23: I was on a mission and moved around all the time
Ages 23-present: I've lived in 4 houses and hope to not move again until we can buy a place of our own.
