Offically Best Friends Forever

Every kid needs a best friend. Someone to play with, someone to share secrets with. Growing up mine lived two houses away.
My best friends house seen from the end of our driveway sometime in the 80's

My friend Jill (can see her blog here) was my friend as long as I can remember. In my baby book it lists her as one of my friends at 3-years-old. She gave me this card for my 4th birthday- signed by her mom.
And she even called me at the hospital after my heart surgery when I was five years old.

Waiting for the bus- 4th grade

And well- see it totally is official-
Jill made me this certificate when we were 11- though this was right around the time she moved to the other side of town.

The distance and junior high changed things. We never fought and got mad at each other.. time and space just kind of got in the way.

But this last week when she said she was going to be in California visiting her sister and asked if we could meet up- of course I said yes. And then when I found out her sister lives only 3 miles away- well it made it really easy.

It was so awesome visiting with her. We haven't seen each other since high school graduation, but it wasn't weird or awkward. It just felt natural and great. Jill made a comment saying it was kind of funny as she has two me's in her head- the childhood best friend me and now the FB/blog me. And I felt just the same.

Jill and I today-
or last week technically when we took the picture. I don't remember her being that much taller than me- but looking back- she always was.

And here are two of our girls (she has one more girl).. my Alex 4 1/2- her daughter 5 1/2. They had a great time playing together.I bet they would be official best friends if we lived two doors away.

Are you still friends with any of your childhood friends?

  5. This post gave me goosebumps as it reminds me of my best friend growing up. We were never apart EVER! Now we live in two different states and our lives seem to take over.

I'm going to call her today, thanks for posting this..just for the record you girls look like sisters!

  10. That is so great. I love reconnecting with old friends.

Yes, my best friend whom I met in 7th grade is Monique. She and I are still very close. We didn't go to the same high school and there were times when we barely spoke, but some events in her life have recently brought us together closer than ever. A true friend is one you can go years without speaking to and then just pick up right where you left off with no awkwardness.

  11. You know what they say "Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold".
I truly believe once a friend, always a friend and if it is interupted like you and Jill by many years it is great to re-connect! What a fun visit for you both!!

  15. This is such a sweet post ... and I'm so glad you got to reconnect after all this time. I'm afraid I'm not in touch with any of my childhood friends. I switched schools and states too many times.

  16. How fun! I just went to Vegas with three of my best friends from growing up. One I met on the swings in first grade, were one another's maid of honor, and our kids call the other one aunt. The other two were in my wedding and friends since third grade.

Those types of friendship are just amazing.

I love the photo of your daughters together. So sweet.

Glad you had a good time!

  17. I haven't had my best girlfriend for that long...only about 20 years. We were working at the same company and had our almost 18-year-old boys within a week of each other.
