She never treated me like I was different.
Crunch, crunch, crunch
Though the doctors tried to tell her otherwise.
Breath, breath, breath
You can do anything-is the message she taught me.
Swish, swish, swish
The scar down my entire chest said differently.
Step, step, step
Coaches might push her too hard- it just might not be good for her heart.
Pump, pump, pump
I could do anything-but I was cautious-I said no a few times.
Sweat, sweat, sweat
NO LONGER.
I am going to do it,
because I was told that maybe I couldn't,
because I never believed I really could,
because I am strong and I can do anything.
In October I am going to run my first 5K.
The training has begun.
I can do anything.
Yes you can!
ReplyDeleteWoo!! I believe in you.
ReplyDeleteWhat an empowering feeling! Love that you are taking on a challenge like this, I can't wait to hear how it all goes.

ReplyDeleteYou sure can! Good for you :)
ReplyDeleteYou are gonna kick that 5k's ASS!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to OWN it! WOOOHOO!
ReplyDeleteYou most certainly CAN do it!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're awesome Em! Someday, let's do one together - I might need you to do one myself!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love this! YES YOU CAN! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI think that only thing fitting to say here is, YOU GO GIRL!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about your heart troubles. I love that you're going for it! Proving you can do anything. What a great lesson to teach your children too.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I'm not sure if I've ever read about your heart issue before either?
ReplyDeleteOne piece of advise from someone who's ran plenty of 5Ks...don't try to keep up with others, set your own pace. There are some people who basically sprint the entire race. Find a spot in the middle of the pack and just go easy and comfortable, especially for your first race. :-)
Yes, I was born with some heart defects and had heart surgery at 9 months and then open heart surgery at 5 years old. Luckily I have been very blessed and really am pretty healthy.
ReplyDeletewow. powerful words. You can totally do it. Cheering you on!
ReplyDeleteyes you and great words
ReplyDeleteMy advice is find someone who feels like they are at the same pace as you and stick with them, and then near the end, pounce, lol ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm doing my 4th or 5th, this weekend, if I can do it, you most certainly can! Go Em!
Yes, yes you can!!!!
ReplyDeleteGOOD FOR YOU!!!! You can and WILL do it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou can do it!
ReplyDeleteAnd just saw your comment about what you went thru as a child. Wow, girl.
Wow! That is great! Praying for you through this!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking I want to do a 5K now. Not now, but maybe next year for sure!!
Awesome!! You go, girl!!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow-saw your comment about surgery as a child, you poor thing! Thank goodness you are healthy today!
Awesome! Can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it. Running is so freeing. Whenever I hit that place where my lungs are screaming for air and I feel like I'm dying--it is then that I know I am living! Run like a mother!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I am so proud of you, and your determination. That is just amazing. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteYes you can! I don't have the obstacle that you've had to face, but I am seriously discouraged about my lack of fitness.
ReplyDeleteI used to run 5 miles a day. Now I get out of breath coming up the stairs. I've started the couch to 5K and I am determined to stick with it!
Good luck and you can do it!!
What an empowering feeling. I saw your comment above, you're amazing. You can do this! I can't wait to hear how well you do too!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!! You can and WILL do it. I can tell how determined you are. You GO GIRL!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteGo Emmy Go!!!!! You CAN TOTALLY do it! Know how I know this? a) you are Emmy and you can do anything b) I ran all through high school. In my senior year I developed a complicated stress fracture in my shin and even with lots of therapy, the dr told me if I ran any more races I would "probably" never be able to run again. I made the tough choice to RUN!! It killed, but I accomplished the record I wanted to set for my school's history books, I waited for my cracked leg to heal and eventually I even ran for my college XC and track teams.
ReplyDeleteWith prayer and power of mind you will do it!!!! YAY!
You can do it!!! Congrats! :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you! You can totally do this!!
ReplyDeleteYou can so do this! I'm rootin' for ya and I will be there (virtually) at the finish line clapping and cheering the loudest!
ReplyDeleteWhat are you doing for training? I highly recommend Couch to 5K.
