As a child I loved reading. My sister and I had a shelf full of books in our bedroom and I remember picking out piles of books to read. In my scrapbook my mom put together for me, there is an award from 2nd grade where I read over 300 books.
My love of reading soon lead to a love of writing. If I had a blank notebook I just had to fill it up with stories. In I believe third grade a story I wrote, The Witch Who Lost her Broom, won a school award. In high school I wrote a short play that the Y0ung Women of my church acted out during an Evening in Excellence. I of course was the star of my own play- hey why not, I wrote it.
I have always loved a good book.
But I don't read anymore- or at least I shouldn't.
A few days ago while I was waiting in the pick-up line to get Lucas I opened up my iPad and began reading Emma- one of the many free iBooks available. And what have I done the last few days? Nothing but read Emma.
You see, when I begin a good book and get hooked- well you might as well not bother trying to talk to me until I am done. When I read the Hunger Game series, I couldn't even put the book down while unloading the dishwasher. When I finished, Eric proclaimed- we got mom back!
So it is probably best if you not recommend any books to me as my family's health may depend upon it. Luckily I finished Emma- so I can now spend the day reading all of your blogs that I have gotten behind on.....
hmmmm.... is that much better?
Oh well. Read any good books lately?
I'm the same way - my husband got me a Nook back in September and I've done nothing but read ever since. I'm working on the Fire and Ice series right now (aka Game of Thrones). Each book is 700-1000 pages, and I can't stop!
ReplyDeleteI loved Bossypants, I just finished reading that on my iPod touch, even though it took me like 2 months to finish it.
ReplyDeletei'm the same way which means i'm usually always behind on blogs and house work
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way with books! I get so absorbed in them that I can't put them down. I haven't really read a lot this year and I miss it.
ReplyDeleteI get totally wrapped up in books. I've been reading the Private series all this week. I'm a YA lit fan and these draw me in. They're short, but still... I'll read two in a day. And I can read while I cuddle up with my boys... though I've gotten zero housework done.
ReplyDeleteBooks are my Meth. I must always have a book handy.
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny cuz I do the same thing!! I find a good book--right now the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and I have to actually time myself and then put the book down. I'm on book two of like thirteen...and this is the second time I'm reading them!!!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean! I'm happy to hear someone still has time to get engrossed in a book even with 3 kids! Gives me hope for my future! It was either that or I'd have to read the books I was reading to my kids.
ReplyDeleteI never clean the house the week I have a good book!
ReplyDeleteI don't take the time to read anymore. It's just sad. I love to read. I say good for you for taking time to read. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more time to read.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading The Help.
I don't have much time to read now, but I'm the same way when it comes to a good book!
ReplyDeleteI loved The Hunger Games! I just started reading the Game of Thrones series that apparently has like 5 books! Ok so maybe not a good idea for you :)
ReplyDeleteThe Hunger Games?? I'm going to have to investigate this series!
ReplyDeleteI love reading too and like you, when I'm in a book, it's all I think about. Hey, at least your setting a good example for your kids - you could be hooked on soap operas right?
I love to sit and read a good book. My favorite series is the Cross books by James Patterson. When I read those, I can not put them down.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate. I love to read and am passionate about books. When I get engrossed in a good book, I get the same way -- useless to the world until I finish. My last "obsession" was "The Night Circus" -- incredible read!

Good! It is not only me that does this! I will be up all night doing the same. I never start a book when I know I have a lot going on!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who does that! It's hilarious, she's out of commission for a couple days.
ReplyDeleteOh I hear you! When I get caught up in a book, I neglect everything but the stuff I must do. I read all the time but a book that just keeps you from doing anything doesn't come along all the time.
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't be telling you this, BUT, an AMAZING book is The Book Thief. I don't know if you have read it before but it is excellent. The narrator of the story is death- and it is set in the time of the holocaust. So good!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way! I will stay up all night just to read and never get tired. That is the ONLY time I can do that nowadays. :)
ReplyDeleteI am the SAME way!! M will know if it's a good book or not by the way I act. Do I stay up until 3:30am to finish it? Do I watch any of my DVR'd shows before my book is finished? It's kinda bad. But, I need to what Emma was about? I haven't picked up my kindle in about 2 months.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the Hunger Games movie!
I'm the same way - except for school books that is! I got a nook for my birthday and have it already filled to the brim with books! Since starting school though, there hasn't been much reading going on! That's it - I need to quit school in order to read books ... your post has inspired me ;0)
ReplyDeleteThis is why I haven't finished a series I'm dying to because I have to read it all at once. LOL! =)
ReplyDeleteI have a love affair with reading. My love affair is running dry. There is nothing that is flirting with my heart. Leaves more time for the ensign, but man I miss my books.
ReplyDeleteSince I got started blogging, my reading's been pushed out a bit. Though I'm the same way with a good book. Those Hunger Game books were very addictive.
ReplyDeleteI'm the exact same way. I will forgo my precious sleep to finish a book. That's why I stick to magazines now. I can even read them when I lock myself in the bathroom and pretend I have stomach issues.
ReplyDeleteI am, and always have been, a very avid reader. Love books!
ReplyDeleteI have learned that I better not pick up a book until I crawl into bed though. So although my reading time is limited I try to get a little in each day. Weekend can be heaven!
Yep, I'm the same way! I love to read :)
ReplyDeleteRight now, I'm reading Mercy by Jodi Picoult...very good.
I have the same problem! My degrees are all in Literature for a reason... We recently finished Brandon Sanderson's War Breaker. I'm not a science fiction girl, but I actually really enjoyed it. We have our own family book club and when my son told me it was his favorite book, I wanted to like it.
ReplyDeleteSandy
:) I always used to have my nose in a book! (I don't think I ever got any awards for it though!!!) I love to read, but I'm just like you! Poor LB was deprived when I read The Help.. and she didn't care for me talking in my southern accent.... :-/
ReplyDeleteLOL I'm exactly the same way. I might even confess to hiding in the bathroom to get a chapter finished? Hee Oh how I wish there were more hours in the day~
ReplyDeleteI ignore everything when I'm in a good book too. It's crazy, but I don't even try to stop myself - books are tooo good.
ReplyDeleteI love finding good books to read. When I get in to them I won't sleep until I'm finished.

ReplyDeleteThat's great! I was like that with the Twilight series, but I haven't really read a whole lot of books. I guess I might be the same way if I let myself read, but I just don't. Its probably a good thing my kids barely let me read books from school let alone for fun.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing I love more than being transported by a good book. I loved The Hunger Games and Twilight because they were so easy to get wrapped up in and extremely fun.
ReplyDeleteLately I've been trying to read books that aren't novels and more short stories, because they are easier for me to put down. David Sedarias and Tina Fey's book are my current favorites like that.
My all time favorites though are East of Eden (Steinbeck,) A Prayer For Owen Meaney (Irving,) and Gone With The Wind.
I want to read Emma now. One of my very favorite movies!!
