Fancy Family Valentines Dinner

Last year we began a tradition which will probably be around for a while, our fancy family Valentines dinner.

Eric and I went out last Friday- helping avoid the crowds, and saving Valentine's Day for something special for our family.

We got the table all ready-- with supplies from the Dollar Store
Decor:
-Table Cloth
-Heart plates, red plastic silverware, napkins
-Fancy heart plastic cups
-Tissue paper folder in square in center
-candle holders, candles
-heart tinsel/garland
-Heart dollies (under plates)
-Mailbox- that I made (instructions here) (only thing not from $ store)
-Gift Boxes- filled with little treats/toys from dollar store

Menu:
-Heart Shaped tortellini
-Garlic Bread
-Mixed Vegetables
-Root-beer
-Chocolate covered strawberries
-Sushi- for Eric and I
-Heart shaped cake for dessert

My daughter begged for the chocolate covered strawberries, as she loves strawberries (they keep her hair red you know- just ask her)-- she even helped me dip them all- but in the end she did not like them and just wanted plain strawberries! Silly girl

And yes we even ate by candle lightIt was a wonderful night that we all fully enjoyed and we will definitely be doing it again next year.

Do you have any fun family traditions?

  11. I love your tradition! Did you make the tortellini--that's so cute! We always do a daddy daughter date for Valentine's. Though next year I'll have to find a way to include the boys more.

  12. We do the family valentine dinner too w/the dollar store decorations - but your pics and FOOD look way better than mine! :) Chocolate covered strawberries - yum! We also did a Mom/Daughter and Dad/Son movie date on the Sat. before. The boys went to Star Wars and we went to Beauty and the Beast. :) Still need to do a Mom/Dad date though...

  21. Looks like a wonderful time!

I did this the all the years my kids were growing up and all home - such great memories are made when you go the extra mile as a mom!!

We have lots of traditions, some that have been around for awhile and some that change and evolve - I truly believe that traditions help give kids a wonderful family foundation!

  29. Hahaha! The strawberries keep her hair red! That is funny. Man she just doesn't know what she is missing...chocolate dipped is awesome. Oh well. The meal looks yummy. I didn't go that far out. But I have started a new tradition in that we have nice setting for Valentine's Day. So at least I have started something! I owe that to you. :)

  30. I love this tradition!

Unfortunately, music lessons, sports practice and scouts generally impose on our week nights, so it would have been hard to pull something awesome like this off this year.

But I bet if I tried hard I could make it happen!!

  31. Wow, that is quite the spread! Will you adopt me at Valentine's every year? ;)
