I saw this on pinterest

and thought, that looks perfect, something easy and right up our alley.
Now, I have to admit, I did not click on the pin and read the instructions, in fact the day of our craft I didn't even look at the pin, just went on memory.
I vaguely told the kids what we were going to be doing, and they both painted their trees a little fat. I don't think I squeezed out enough paint to dip it good, so we used a brush to paint onto the bottom of the bottle- and well here is my tree.
So definitely not quite like the picture. But maybe if I had followed the directions it might have turned out better. Instead the kids just started painting their own trees.Ryder even joined in the fun.
My title might not be totally accurate, as it probably wasn't pinterest that failed me, but me that failed pinterest. But in the end the kids had fun, we actually crafted together again and I felt like an awesome mom. So thank you pinterest, you made me a good mom for the day.
I am linking up with my Face-time friend (okay we only face-timed once) Jannette for her Show us your Find weekly party
P.S. Come back tomorrow to link up with Proud Mommy Moments-- and you can still write your Ten Things to Smile About Lists!
I seen that one Pinterest and loved it. I'll make sure to follow the directions if we do that.
ReplyDeleteI love the kids tree's.
I've seen that pin over and over again, and each time I see it, I say to myself, "It cannot be that easy." Looks like I might be right. LOL
ReplyDeleteAt least the kids had fun, right?
Very cute. You did true artwork.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your kids faces, so intent.
I saw that on pinterest too! We were going to do it for easter prints to everyone, but then Bear really wanted to continue making shamrock prints out of a cut pepper (also saw on pinterest!) and so I went with it. This year the family will have a LUCKY Easter ;)
ReplyDeletethose trees did end up quite magical though!
I pinned that exact same thing!! Totally forgot I did but ya'll did a great job. I am the biggest copy cat on the planet and if I can find an idea like that and then have my own twist, it makes me feel like I tapped into my creative side. I love that it worked out that way- its your own memories and crafts and probably did earn you Mommy brownie points! We are practically related based off that one Face Time Meeting. I feel like you are a neighbor! xoxo thanks so much girl for sharing!! I've written/scheduled my 10 things for tomorrow!!! YAY!!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the kids trees personally- the pinterest one looks too perfect- I'm a bit skeptical that it was done with that bottle!
ReplyDeleteOk. I'll admit I laughed. but think of it this way, the kids had a fun time.
ReplyDeleteAnd If I did anything artsy I found on Pinterest It would look like that too. My Martha Stewart gene is broken. I used one the tutorials for cutting glass... it didn't work at all. It looks so easy. But no.
The kids had fun. That's all that is important.
At least you had fun!
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks like it was fun regardless!
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the fun! They probably liked invented their own trees more :)
ReplyDeleteEmmy, you know I tried it too and mine came out crappy as well LOL and Nathan's was worse...in fact he got frustrated and just painted and smeared the paint. I think it's because (in the case of kids) the bottle is too big for their little hands to control - I had a hard time doing it, because my hands are little too.
ReplyDeleteMy theory is an adult did the painting and passed it off as a kids, cause that's just "too perfect" to be done by a child.
Hey, it makes me feel better thinking that way :D
At least the kids had fun!
Oh, this post made me laugh! I think a lot of pins out there look good, but are probably not as easy as they appear. I think your kids' paintings are beautiful, however. So, at least, that worked out!
ReplyDeleteHa! I have to follow crafting things step by step or it will never work. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Emmy. Mine would have still come out like that even if I read all the directions. So cute. Your are definitely an awesome mom.
ReplyDeleteI thought the first photo was yours while reading your post - and was like, "that's totally not a fail! what is she talking about?" and then saw the second! glad you got to spend some craft time with your kids - it looks like they enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteAt least it crossed over into a fun painting project, even if not exactly what you had envisioned.
ReplyDeleteStill looks cute though!:)
ReplyDeleteYou should post this on craftfail blog. It's for pinterest fails. But like everyone said, it still looks pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteok, really? you call that a fail? you def were not the one to fail b/c those are so cute. i love them. i just don't love paint with max. or brennan. unless it's watercolor paint. then we are ok for 15 min:) ha.
ReplyDeleteLooks good to me! And fun project for the kids...they don't care about perfection!
ReplyDeleteI've done this before! In fact I may have been crazy enough to do it with 2 year olds, but maybe they were older I don't remember. I used the 20oz bottles and I found that worked better. Especially for the kids because they could grasp it better. Something else I would do with paint to make it less goopy was to make a "sponge" with a washcloth. I'd put the washcloth on a paper plate, add the paint and that sort of kept it from putting too many on there.
ReplyDeleteEveryone had fun … so that is not a failure at all!
ReplyDeleteThat pinterest pic looks a little too perfect. I think it's deceiving.. :o)
ReplyDeleteIn the end, having fun is the most important part, right?
Ha ha, that's so funny! That craft was all over Pinterest for awhile and I pinned it myself, but haven't tried it yet. I'll make sure to read the directions when I do!
ReplyDeleteI've really been enjoying trying things that I find on Pinterest. It definitely helps me to do fun things with my kids and be more creative. I love that website!
I am so excited about sleeping in and not doing anything that I haven't even considered they might need something to keep them busy! hahaha. You did good. They were happy and that is what matters most!
ReplyDeleteStill cute!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't consider that a fail at all - the kids look like they enjoyed it and you have some new artwork!
ReplyDeleteI think they still turned out cute! But you are right - that Pinterest pic looks WAY different than the real thing. Darn Pinterest!
