I am My Mother's Daughter

When I put my toddler in the car then hurry to the drivers side as we are running late and catch my reflection of my little jog in the mirror I realize;
I am my mother's daughter.

When I look in the mirror and see more gray hairs already breaking through my recently dyed hair;
I am my mother's daughter.

When I am tired or annoyed and suck in the air to let it out in a long sigh;
I am my mother's daughter.

When I wield a paintbrush- carefully painting the snow on top of the pine tree;
I am my mother's daughter.

When I look down at my fair arms covered in brown freckles;
I am my mother's daughter.

When I carefully plan and spend hours decorating a birthday cake;
I am my mother's daughter.

When my kids make a mess or fight and scream and I take a deep breath, count to ten and exhibit a patience I didn't think I had;
I am my mother's daughter.

When I see those around me suffering and hurting and invite, reach out and help lift up;
I am my mother's daughter.

So to my mother whom I love so much.
