A Photographers Thoughts on Photography

A week and a half ago I did a family photo shoot.  I am not even halfway through editing the pictures from the shoot yet but just wanted to share a few favorites so far- I am sure my favorites will change.

It is always interesting going into a family shoot as there are so many different personalities that you end up working with.

There is the shy one.

So shy that she was hiding and wouldn't even look at me at first, but the great thing about working with a photographer like me instead of in a rushed box-store studio, is that I can take my time and wait and work to get those money shots.

There was the excited and ready to pose one (always makes my job more easy)

And there are the quiet ones who sometimes surprise you and end up being your favorite to work with.

I do truly enjoy taking pictures, every time I do a shoot I wish I did it more often.

Since our last move I just have not taken the time to build up a clientele.

It is hard with small children.... with good friends in the area who are also photographers....

Time and a season for everything right?

For now, I'll just try and love every shoot I get to do and hope that I can create and give each family something they will love forever.

  2. Your photos are beautiful! I'm sure with a few shoots, word will spread about how awesome you are, and before you know it you'll have a big clientele :)

  6. I don't know what it is about B&W's, but those always end up being my favorites! You did such a good job with these, as always. Group photos can be hard, but you really pulled it off in that last one there!

  11. I'm glad you enjoy it even when you don't do it often. I'm a photographer too, but I actually dislike the family sessions because little kids are hard to photograph while trying to make sure everyone else looks good. I prefer newborn and couples, but I always get families lol. Oh well. Your pics are gorgeous! :-)

  12. I totally agree with you about a photographer like you vs the rushed box-store studio feeling. I got similar results a couple months ago with a friend of mine who I did a family shoot for.

  13. Those are beautiful photos. You are self taught, right? Self taught with a load of talent! Only once have we had a real photographer, but I wasn't impressed. It seemed so unorganized and unplanned "so what pose do you want to do now?" type thing? Maybe when you come out... never mind, you will be too busy juggling two families. I remember your posts from the last time you came! :)
