This little guy was just 4 days old! The perfect age for newborn photography.
I loved the cheesecloths wraps I had recently purchased; perfect for covering up his *ahem* boy parts. I got the wraps from an awesome Etsy shop MyArtisticCreations. She seemed to have the best prices and a great selection and I will definitely be getting some more from her.
Newborn photoshoots are not a fast process, this one was a little over two hours.
But the extra time, the patience.. all so worth it to get some adorable shots.
Oh and you also have to be prepared for surprises.
This first time dad was amazing and took it like a pro when his little guy did his business on him (both kinds)
I am not actually even done editing the pictures from this session (lots of great mama ones too); I just had a craptastic day yesterday and so wanted to share something beautiful that makes me smile.
If you live in Southern California and are about to have a baby or know someone who is send them my way as I would love to photograph their new baby!
Would anyone be interested in some tips and hints for newborn pictures? If there is any interest I can write up some tutorial posts.

ReplyDeleteAwesome!
DeleteOh by the way, these are awesome shots! Some days I get excited and hit publish way toooo soon :)
ReplyDeleteOh Emmy those are fantastic pictures! You have skills girl and that baby is the cutest! What a sweet photo with the dad! Love it, love it love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! Throughout the session the parents kept saying I was the baby whisperer and that I should call it my photo bizz and spa as it was so relaxing watching me with my baby. That meant more to me than anything!
DeleteLOVE the pictures. I so wish you were in Michigan. I would have loved for you to take Luke's photos. He'll be 6 months old in a month and I'm freaking out about going back to JC Penney. I hate that place...but I can't afford to do nice for every milestone.
ReplyDeleteYea, I would save up for a great shoot for 1 year, still get 6 month pictures for sure. The trouble with the box stores is that they can't/won't take the extra time that is often needed.
DeleteAwww these are great! I love these sleepy little newborns :) (ha ha except mine never were during our newborn sessions!)
ReplyDeleteYea he was sleepy on and off-- I would get him back to sleep pose him and then would have to get him back asleep every time we switched poses. Which is why it took a while but it was worth the extra time. Plus I had all the tricks, had the heat way up, white noise, etc... all the little extras that help
DeleteI think you might be right! These are outstanding!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! That means a lot
DeleteThese are gorgeous! What an adorable little guy! I wish I had done newborn photos for my daughter. Argh! Mommy regrets... I'm not sure I knew you were in SoCal! Me too. Nice!
ReplyDeleteYes, I wish the same with my older two as I didn't know nearly as much about photography when they were born.
DeleteGorgeous! You are very talented.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteThose are amazing photo's! You are very talented.
ReplyDeleteI love newborn photos.. great job, you definitely have the eye for it.
ReplyDeleteWow your photos are amazing! I definitely need someone like you for our second. I love our newborn pictures but they were anything but traditional and sometimes you just want some really nice traditional moments. lol You are incredibly talented!
ReplyDeleteYes, while I do find some of the different poses fun; I tend to lean towards the more timeless shots.
DeleteGorgeous. And I'm with you the perfection of newborns can not be beat! Wish I had the energy to have tken more of my brood when they were that small! :)
ReplyDeleteYes the time goes fast and while I hate getting my own kids ready for a shoot, I never regret doing it.
DeleteAww great pics! This almost gives me baby fever...almost. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the best things about photographing newborns; I get to hold and cuddle for a couple of hours and then I give them back :)
DeleteYou are truly amazing. These photos are so sweet. What an honor it must be to work with these tiny little newborns.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! It really is awesome, especially working with brand new parents knowing they trust me with their baby.
DeleteBeautiful photos - I love them all!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'd absolutely be interested in some tips and hints!
These are so beautiful! When I see parents holding naked babies in shots, I always wonder if they got peed or pooped on in the process. ;o)
ReplyDeleteAre you responding to comments now on each post? I've considered doing that. Right now if I get a no-reply blogger, I will respond on the post, but everyone else gets an email response. It's a little daunting keeping up with that, so I've been thinking of switching to all post responses. Thoughts?
My favorite one is the second one, but I LOVE them all. Nice work Em! So beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI love newborn pictures. I have since I discovered the photography of Anne Geddes when I was a kid. I'm so glad I got my son's done when he was nine days old. They are precious. I love your pictures! If I lived in CA and had a baby I would definitely hire you!
ReplyDeleteCan you come do mine? Those are great pictures. I love the one of the baby in the truck!
ReplyDeleteOh I love newborn baby pics!! They are just the SWEETEST EVER and you did such a great job in capturing the innocence and making me want another baby!! I've gotta settle for a new puppy for now :) Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to take pictures of this baby!
