The Passage of Time

Twelve days....  that's it.   I know what it is exactly as my kids created a chain last night.

Twelve days until school starts.

When the summer began, I must admit I thought by the time we reached this point I would be celebrating, others summers that was the case, but I am not.

I am mourning... and nervous... and dreading.

Mourning the loss of easy mornings, of lazy days in our pajamas, of last minute trips to the beach.

Nervous about Alex being gone all day and eating lunch at school.  Nervous if Lucas will have good friends in class or if he will get picked on or bullied.

Dreading the homework.

Why is there so much homework?   I know most schools have homework but as I talk to other parents I think ours is more and I have heard 3rd grade is even worse.

But they are excited... they created a chain.

Lucas has been telling Alex all about school when you are in "a grade" and all of the ins and outs.

They like school, they do well in it and Alex makes friends so easily.

So I hide my mourning, I hide my nerves and dread and put a smile on my face as we count down the days until school starts.

Time goes too fast.

  1. 12 days! Wow! We still have a few more weeks (mid-August is when my husband goes back to work) and I'm just not ready for the summer to end.

  2. Yes, I wish we were mid-August. It always seems to get so hot those first couple of weeks of school for us and is miserable.

  3. I have the same amount of days left on my summer break:( The official start date is the 12th, but I have 4 days of a retreat to attend for my building before that. I'm not ready for that every day schedule yet.

  5. I agree, time does go fast. I think Tori is extremely excited to start this next school year. Sadly she was supposed to be in our district so we might ahve seen her more, but then her mom kept her 40 miles from us again. Maybe next year.

  6. It's great when they love school so much. In a few years, you will have to help them find the joy in it. I can't believe it is almost over(summer) where did the time go!

  7. Time changes everything except something within us which is always surprised by change.

  8. 12 days is incredible! That is too soon. Good luck with it. But you and Ryder will have so much special one on one time. That will be nice for the two of you.

  9. This summer really seems to be flying by. I'm glad they enjoy school. Allison is really looking forward to going back. Ryan, not so much. He is really enjoying sleeping in.
