We Want to Know Wednesday: Summer

{no. 1} Now that it is officially Summer, what season is your favorite and why?
I think my favorite season is fall.  In SoCal we definitely do not have traditional seasons, but in Illinois where I grew up we did.  I loved the cool nights, the leaves changing colors, football season, my birthday... so yep fall.

{no. 2} What does Summer look like in your house? Sound like?
Summer looks and sounds loud, crazy and lazy.  My kids seem to have two volumes, loud and louder (well except for Ryder he can be quiet still), so when they are home all day it is loud.  There are lots of days where we all stay in our pajamas, lots of games, book reading and yes way too many shows. There are also pool days, trips to the beach,  and vacations.

{no. 3} Recount a Summer memory from your childhood:
I grew up in Illinois on a small street that was surrounded by and ended in a cornfield- literally it was a dead end.  We lived near the end so all of the neighborhood kids would spend our summer nights playing outside in the yards and in the street.   We would play war, ghost in the graveyard, and other games until it got to dark to safely run around (there were not street lights).  Many days I spent the whole day in my bathing suit either swimming at my friend's across the street, playing in the sprinklers or on the slip and slide only changing before bedtime.
My childhood home today (well in early June)

{no. 4} Do you have 4th of July plans?
I will be waking up ridiculously early on the 4th of July to go and help with registration for a Free 5K and pancake breakfast my church is hosting.  I have to be there at 6:15- so that means I have to be up before then to get ready-- yea.   My family will join me at 8:00 for the 4th of July program and breakfast.  Then that night we are going to BBQ with some friends and find our favorite spot in front of the Home Depot to watch the fireworks from the stadium, the view is great and it's free that way.

{no. 5} Does it get super hot where you are in the Summer and how do you deal with it?
It does get super hot (though I used to live in AZ so only relatively super hot).  August is the worst and we usually have a week or two in the 110's.  Thankfully it does cool down at night and that only lasts a couple of weeks; plus we just have to head to the beach where it is 20 degrees cooler.

What are your summer days like?

  1. Our summer days is usually spent at my parents, in the pool. Or early trips to the park before it gets way to hot. The kids are looking forward to going to the fireworks tomorrow night.

  10. Weather wise, I think summer is my least favorite. I don't like hot. But I do love our reunion each summer and my birthday too. It's been crazy hot for here lately, over 100!

  15. Yes 110 is definitely hot.. but I used to live in AZ where we once had 22 consecutive days over 110 and would have days in he 120's-- so yea compared to that it doesn't feel so hot anymore :)

  18. Isnt it funny how childhood seems so idyllic? Mine was the same way. Especially the staying up late playing night games.
    Your 4th sounds busy!

  22. Thank you! Yes slip and slides were so fun as a kid.. not as much as an adult, too many things to get squished when running and jumping :)
