Book Review and Giveaway: A Nothing Named Silas

I love reading books, have always loved reading them since I was little.  A genre that I have really grown to love the last several years is the Dystopia/end of society as we know it style of books.

When a publisher contacted me asking if I would like to receive A Nothing Named Silas by Steve Westover to review I agreed.

The book begins with a young man named Silas right in the middle of the a big competition and race.  We quickly learn that this race is extremely important as the outcome of this race will determine the rest of the contestants lives, his destiny.  Silas is not worried, as he has been training for this and to take a roll in Command party his entire life.  A dirty, but legal, move by another contestant and everything is soon turned completely upside down.

Shockingly Silas ends up as the lowest recruit into the Labor party.  Society is divided up, literally and physical as each party has a different dome or bubbled area of society they live in.  The bubble is said to be there for their protection.

Silas quickly learns he may have another purpose and a strange girl helps him realize that maybe he can chose his own destiny.  He is left to figure out what side he should be fighting for.

I won't say much more as I don't want to give it away.  I loved this book.  Easy read, fast paced, gets you thinking.  It leaves you guessing as to who the "good" guys are.  It is also free of bad language and graphic imagery; which I appreciate in books.  There is mentioned nudity in the book but it is not descriptive at all.  The book does end and come to a resolution but it also leaves it for a possibility of a sequel.

If you are a fan of Dystopia style novels (Divergent, Hunger Games, Matched) then you will like this book.

  5. Great review - I'm into this audio book app on my phone. All I have to do is choose a book to listen to, put on headphones and go about my chores or driving down the road or what ever. It's the best because I as much as I love to read I don't have the time to do so. I've listened to 7 books this summer - I'm telling ya its the best!
