When you are pregnant you can't wait for that baby to come, but then once they do you will never again in your life get sleep, okay maybe someday.
When you are stuck in the sleepless nights of a newborn, you dream and wish for the day they sleep through the night.
Then they do but they begin crawling and getting into things.
You wish for the day when they will just stop putting everything in their mouths- but before you know it it will be a day when you won't always like the things coming out of their mouths.
This last week we finally transitioned Ryder to a big boy bed. He never tried to crawl out of his crib, in fact he was perfectly content there; or would have been had his big sister not talked to him about how awesome it is to have a big boy bed.
So there I was snapping pictures, all while mourning the fact that my baby was growing up.... but really I wouldn't want it any other way as the alternate is much much worse.
So motherhood, all those little milestones that we look forward to and celebrate, break our heart a little.
The Joys of Motherhood.
--Here is how I found Ryder the first morning of his new bed
So sweet. Love that last picture. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, that is just so classic. Luckily he seems to have settled more into it and is usually the right way in the morning :)
DeleteYou are so right...we wish for the struggles to fast forward but then it also means our babies are growing up...and if I remember correctly this is your last one so I'm sure it even makes this even tougher!
ReplyDeleteYep, he is my last so it definitely does make it all a little more sad, a little more final.
DeleteHe looks pretty comfy in his new big boy bed! I know it's hard on mama, though. Hugs to you!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes he is loving it and loves that he can just get out himself in the morning.
DeleteYou are so right! My oldest recently turned 13, and I am longing for those simple, exhausting, baby days! Stopping by from PYHO.
ReplyDeleteYea, I have always heard little kids, little problems- big kids, big problems. Not looking forward to the teenager years
DeleteLOL at the morning picture. kids are funny how they sleep. At least he didn't make the big jump to a regular bed. Those things swallow the kid up.
ReplyDeleteYes, that would really make him seem so little, plus I would be worried about him falling out, as obviously he moves around while sleeping
DeleteSo true. The trick is to just love every stage as they all have goods and bads. And it all goes by way too fast. He's really getting big!
ReplyDeleteYes! That is definitely easier to remember some days than others :)
DeleteI'm already tearing up over my last baby (11 months this week) hitting these milestones, and I am so.right.there. We have escaped the newborn phase, are heavily into the crawling and standing and climbing stage, and are rapidly approaching walking. And even though you know what it's going to be like since it's not the first time, it really does break your heart a little more.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the milestone, and I just love that morning picture. That's one to save and treasure for years to come. xo.
Thank you! Yes, I think with your first you just anticipate those milestones so much but when it is your last your realize that there are some things that will never be the same
DeleteMilestones tend to make me teary eyed. JDaniel starting kindergarten has been the hardest milestone for me.
ReplyDeleteThat was a huge one! I cried when my first did, was okay when my second started, but once my baby starts yea I have no doubt i will cry
DeleteI find myself wishing for time to speed up and slow down at the same time. Ah, motherhood.
ReplyDeleteYes exactly!!
DeleteYou're so right! My son turned 2 last month and I am expecting my 2nd in March. I know sometime between now and then, I'll have to transition him to a 'big boy bed', and I'm dreading, both because that means he will officially be a 'big boy', to me anyway, and because I don't want to deal with him getting out of bed. :) I can't believe how fast the last 2 years have gone. It's true, trying to find the balance of enjoying the present moment and wishing for the future, and missing the past, all at the same time.
ReplyDeleteYes, my first was so tricky when we had to transition him (he started climbing out), we ended up putting one of those door lock things on his doorknob to keep him in his room at bedtime as he was just a stinker about it.
DeleteI used to want time to speed up, but now I wouldn't mind if it slowed down a little! It's crazy how fast they grow and learn new things. Definitely makes me proud and breaks my heart at the same time, ha ha.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know my kids are always wanting time to go faster, it is hard to learn to enjoy it and then when you finally do then you realize it is going too fast!
DeleteAwwww. heck we still sleep on the couch with her sleeping in the pack and play once in awhile, but Brandon works 12s on swingshift and I want to make sure he gets enough sleep.
ReplyDeleteYea, I would have kept him in their longer if it was totally up to me but he was ready and thankfully is doing great
DeleteI love that picture of his first morning in the new bed. Trying my best to cherish every minute.
ReplyDeleteYes I have to remind myself almost daily to cherish it and enjoy it
DeleteYay for milestones!
ReplyDeleteI held TWO babies a little while ago and now I can't stop thinking about having another baby. UGH!
Oh yes babies can do that to you
DeleteHa! What a goofball sleeper! He does look like a big boy!
ReplyDeleteYes so funny how kids sleep
DeleteIt is a wonderful thing to see them growing as hard as it is to see them get more independent. For them to need us less is both wonderful and depressing at the same time. But on the other hand, my sister was telling me how fun meal times are with her family as all her kids are teenagers. Not that I am wishing for that stage to come, but there are wonderful things about each stage, right? Still, he does look so big now in his big boy bed.
ReplyDeleteYes it is true, I am really enjoying the stage we are at now where we are able to start doing more things as we aren't limited by a baby, though the more we get to that the more easily they get bored too
DeleteHmmmm, reading this makes me nervous that I shouldn't want kids....
ReplyDeleteLol, no don't be nervous as hard and crazy as it is at times it is the best thing in the world
