The table decor is almost all from the Dollar Store. I am all about making it easy too, with disposable plates, as who wants to spend time on lots of dishes?
This year I gave each child a light up rose (also from Dollar store) and a little notebook for a present. Alex almost immediately began writing in hers and now seems like she will be keeping a regular journal thanks to it.

For dinner we had heart shaped ravioli (Costco), mini Quiches (Costco), little sausages (Costco), mixed vegetables and peaches.
We of course had to have sparkly drinks in our fancy cups too (dollar store).
We ate by candle light, as that just makes everything more fancy.
The kids loved it and I ate way too much, those darn quiches are so addicting!
Come back tomorrow and I will tell you about the funny way Alex ensured she would get some flowers for Valentines.
How did you celebrate Valentines day?
Looks like a fabulous night. Wish you were in the picture too!
ReplyDeleteI know! I should have given Eric the camera for a few shots!
DeleteI love the heart shaped ravioli! So cute! Your decorations are adorable and it looks like the the kids had a great time! I agree about the quiches. I'm not even a big quiche fan but I can eat my weight in the minis. I think it's the crust. We stayed home too and had a nice time! The Tornado picked the menu so it was macaroni and cheese with chocolate milkshakes. Not the healthiest but pretty good!
ReplyDeleteYes, these minis are so dangerous to me as I could just eat them and eat them and they are not the least bit healthy.
DeleteThis is so super fun! Your family will look back on this and remember it fondly. Well done, mama!
ReplyDeleteYep, I think we will be doing this for a long time
DeleteWe all started the fancy family valentine's dinners thanks to Raelynn. She decided that is what she wanted to do with her family a few years back and I loved the idea so she shared it with all of us and we all decided to copy her. So you can thank her. ;) Your dinner looks wonderful and tons of fun.
ReplyDeleteThat is right!! I totally forgot that, it was Raelynn that started it.
DeleteHow fun! I love that ravioli! We celebrate by dropping off the kids and going on a date. This year we just went to Steak N Shake to avoid the crowds.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely a good way to celebrate too.. we celebrate that way just on a different date, though we have to pay a babysitter no family close enough to drop off the kids with
DeleteI like your idea much better! We went out for pizza. I am not a huge V-day person (well, besides the gifts...!)
ReplyDeletePizza is good, it is our usual Saturday dinner :)
DeleteI love the table decorations and the fun finger foods. Valentines Day was our anniversary. This year we spent it with the kids and took a mini vacation to a town not far away. I love your idea of candle light dinner and the little gifts for the kids and the flower petals.
ReplyDeleteYep and the gifts and flowers petals (they are fake) are all just things from the dollar store so so inexpensive too. Happy Anniversary!
DeleteThat's soooo awesome! I'd soooo let you throw that party at my house :)
ReplyDeleteAwe thanks!
DeleteWhat a great idea! It looks like so much fun. I'm not big on Valentines Day, but I spent this year moping around because my hubby didn't even get so much as a card for me. I wish we could have done something like this :)
ReplyDeleteOh shoot, sorry :( Yes next year you should do this fun for everyone! Make it a simple dinner and simple things to clean up too so it doesn't just become a ton of work for you
DeleteBought Valentine's day stuff for next year on clearance after. Can't wait to have our own fancy dinner!
ReplyDeleteYes, that is when I will often stock up for the following years dinner :)
DeleteWhat a cute idea! Your table looked so festive!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The kids really do love it
DeleteHappy Valentine's Day...a little late! I love your tradition - I remember seeing it in past years, too. I like seeing less mainstream ways of celebrating holidays! I made dinner at home, but went with Lexie earlier in the day to a bakery to pick out sweets to have for dessert. We hardly ever have sweets, so that's a BIG deal here. :o)
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely have to have sweets on valentines day! :)
DeleteI made some really fun, easy cherry cupcakes for the family. You might like them.

A pinterest idea simplified. I'm all about simple!
I just saw your post, those are so cute! Love that you used a box mix too, so much simpler.
