Our town had been recently destroyed by an F-5 tornado. It had destroyed my grade school, the day before school was supposed to start. Once things finally got settled we started sharing another elementary school. They went to school from 7-12 and we went 12-5, it was awful getting home in the winter when it was pitch black. Around Thanksgiving they finally had some mobile classrooms ready for us.
Luckily there was a really large grassy field close to our school where they were able to set up mobile classrooms which we then went to school in until our school was rebuilt. When we were making that transition the local news station wanted to come interview us and show what things were like.
Of all of the classes they picked my 4th grade class to come into. Before they came, we were instructed to pretend like we were working and to not look up and wave to the camera.
Well in 4th grade I was a serious rule-keeper; the thought of getting in trouble or not obeying terrified me a bit. So the cameras came in, I could sense the camera man and reporter walking around filming, but I could not see them, as I was very intently looking down pretending to work hard on my paper.
That evening when my family gathered around to watch the evening news there were all of my classmates, looking and smiling at that camera and there was the top of my head.
So my first part of my 15 minutes of fame all belong to the top of my head.... kind of fitting since my head and my graying hair is still one of those random blog posts that gets a ton of hits. Guess my head is famous.
Have you had part of your 15 minutes of fame?

This Friday- I will be making my Friday 5 a linky! Grab the button on the side bar and join in!
I remember the first time I was on TV, I was at our local high school's 30 hour famine and I was on the organizing committee and the local news came to talk about it and I just remember saying Um a lot! The second time was when a girl in our area went missing and ended being found dead...I worked with her step mother and had been walking the streets with posters looking for her and then I remember my friend and I were sitting outside the funeral home and the local news obviously didn't want to bug the family and they came to my car and asked if we would speak - it was minimal and i laughed cuz my friend was with me but I did all the talking LOL!
ReplyDeleteWow, you were on TV for some not so fun reasons. What was the 30 hour famine?
DeleteI was at a baseball stadium and they were filming Major League 2 crowd scenes... I may be in there somewhere :)
ReplyDeleteCool! I always thought it would be fun to be part of a movie, even just the crowd
DeleteThat is a funny story haha. I love it. One of my 15 minutes would have to be when I was a massage therapist I worked at a day spa and they wanted me to massage in the commercial. Of course this was back when I was skinnier and looked better haha. They also had me in the part where they were giving a facial to me. I never got to see it, so I wonder what ever came of it.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so cute how you were such a rule keeper! I could see my kids being like that.
That is too bad you weren’t ever able to see it, it would have been fun to see
DeleteEm, that is so funny. I had to chuckle! Pretty much my goal in life is to NOT be on TV. I guess I'm too worried about doing something stupid… :)
ReplyDeleteLol that is true, I am sure my heart would be beating a million miles a minute
DeleteHa ha ha, too funny!
ReplyDeleteI know.. silly me
DeleteThat's too funny! Your head is famous! My claim to fame is that I am actually IN the church film Legacy. Yup. They came to my hometown in Wyoming and wanted extras for the prairie shots. So I spent three days being a pioneer. You can't specifically see me, but I still know which shots I was in. And yay for a linky! I may have to play along!
ReplyDeleteThat is cool! That would be so fun to be an extra
DeleteOh how funny! I was in the local newspaper a few times for random accomplishments - karate tournaments, 1998 national cavy lady, a few 4-h things, and winning an ffa horse competition with my group. Never been on TV though!
ReplyDeleteThat is cool you made the paper so many times.. and yea being on TV wasn’t all that awesome when you don’t even look at the camera :)
DeleteI would have been right there with you. I've always been one for keeping with the rules :). Yup, I've been on tv, for queen contest and I had to introduce myself to the whole fourstates.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome, much better than the top of my head :)
DeleteHaha. Well at least they could say, "There's your head!"
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever been on TV before.
Yep, they could say that. :)
DeleteYour head is famous girl!
ReplyDeleteLol yes it is! I’m so proud ;)
DeleteThat's pretty cool. We were at the beach once where they were filming I think because there had been shark sightings (but they wouldn't tell us why they were there, it was odd, we saw it on the news later) and my sister in laws backside was in one of the shots. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is weird that they wouldn’t tell you why
DeleteSuch a cute story! :) You already know mine. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I totally meant to mention you as it was your post that got my mind thinking about this
DeleteI was on the news one time when a streaker ran through our Walmart. LOL. I happened to be out in the parking lot after it happened, so the news crew that had just arrived interviewed me. Lucky me.
ReplyDeleteLol lucky you indeed! :)
DeleteThe 'A' alligator is just too cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you! He had so much fun making it “eat” things
