Dreaming of a Good Nights Sleep

At some point in all of our lives we just wish for a good nights sleep.  We may wish for it when we are sick, when we have a new baby, or just when life is getting to us.

When I was little I was such an early bird, often the first one up.  In the winter I would wrap up in my blanket and sit on the heating vent hiding behind the couch.  I was afraid I would get in trouble for being up so early.

Looking back I definitely would not have gotten in trouble for being up early, maybe for stealing all the heat though.

Even as a teenager I still rose with the sun.  Finally when I was 20 weeks pregnant and we moved to a new town I learned how to sleep in, often sleeping in until 10:00 A.M.

So yes, right before having a newborn I finally learned how to sleep in, oh the irony!

Lucas was the worst baby when it came to sleeping, didn't really sleep through the night until 2-years-old and by then I had Alex.

So needless to say, now that my kids are all a bit bigger I love being able to sleep all night....

except now sometimes I can't.

Two nights ago it was a bad dream, where I woke up kicking as I swore someone was in my bedroom.

Last night, while randomly dreaming about American Idol, I flipped over only to end up elbowing Eric in the face.

I would have felt really bad, but he was on my pillow.  Something kind of like this
bedtime
When I elbowed him, it startled him more than hurt him and he jolted up asking what was wrong.

We laughed about the situation and were ready to fall back asleep... and then there was an earthquake.

Thankfully it was a small earthquake and was quickly over, one of which we might have even slept through had we actually been asleep.

Once my heart stopped racing and I felt like I could maybe get back to sleep, I heard the owl.

About a week ago an owl decided to take up residence in our neighborhood.  It likes to perch right on our window ledge right outside our bedroom window.  Apparently the earthquake scared the owl too and it was hooting away.

Oh sleep... is it really so hard to get?

  2. I so relate to this - especially your sketch! Can't think of the number of times I've woken up clinging to the edge of the bed while he has plenty of room!

    1. Trust me an owl sounds fun in theory, but in reality not so much

  5. If I could get more than 4-5 hours of sleep a night, I'm 99% sure I'd be a nicer person. :)

The owl thing is kind of cool. After reading Harry Potter, I'd like to have one!

    1. The owl seems good in theory but in reality at night, not so much. That stinks that you are only able to get that much sleep.

  6. My Mom always says that when you CAN get sleep (as a kid) you don't want it, and when you do want it you can't get it. And by the time your kids let you sleep through the night your body is so conditioned it won't let you get it. Anyway, I don't like hearing that. :) Someday I really hope to sleep through the night every night again!

  9. Sleep is impossible for me. I hear every sound and wake up at least 10 times a night. It's ridiculous!
On a side note, I have never experienced an earthquake. How scary!
