On August 12th, Cedar Fort is publishing three new books, one of which is Sense and Sensibility a Latter Day Tale by Rebecca H. Jamison.
About the author:
Rebecca H. Jamison has lived on a live volcano, excavated the bones of a prehistoric mammal, and won first prize at a rigged chili cook-off. She wrote novels just for fun until she made a New Year’s resolution in 2011 to submit a manuscript to publishers. Her first two published works are Persuasion: A Latter-day Tale and Emma: A Latter-day Tale. Rebecca grew up in Virginia. She attended Brigham Young University, where she earned a BA and MA in English. In between college and graduate school, she served a mission to Portugal and the Cape Verde islands. Her job titles have included special education teacher’s aide, technical writer, English teacher, and stay-at-home mom. Rebecca enjoys running, dancing, reading, and watching detective shows. She lives with her husband and children in Utah. You can learn more about her at www.rebeccahjamison.com.
I have read several Jane Austen novels and have seen many of the movies (hello Mr. Darcy), but I have not actually read Sense and Sensibility, so I am not sure if knowing the original story would make me like or dislike this more, but I did enjoy this book.
Maren and Elly are two sisters trying to figure out how to adjust to all of the changes in their lives after the loss of their father and the family business.
The story is fast paced story and good at helping you feel for the characters and the trials they go through. The book felt right along the lines of a Jane Austen novel with romance, villains and broken hearts and very real characters.
There was even a twist for several chapters that left me wanting to shout, 'no- that can't be true!' I enjoyed this quick fun read. It would definitely be a huge hit for fans of LDS literature though even those without much of a knowledge of LDS culture could still enjoy this story.
This is what I classify as a clean book- free of language, sex or strong graphic imagery. I recommend this book.
