Eric took the day off work so he could join us this year.
We began the morning by sleeping in, well Eric and I did the kids were up and watching a movie when we finally got out of bed we were immediately asked if they could have ice-cream for breakfast.
Yes!
Yes!
We stayed at the park just a little while so we could make our show at the movies. We saw the new Planes Fire and Rescue movie, it was really cute.
We of course had to get popcorn and slurpies. Halfway through the movie Alex asked for more popcorn, I gave her the part of mine that I didn't want to finish.
After the movies the kids asked if we could go to the Lego store...
Yes!
They just looked around but couldn't decide on what to spend their money on (they each had $11 to spend).
Instead we went over to ToysRUs where they each picked out a few small things.
After shopping they asked to go out to lunch..
Yes! We went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch.
As you can see everyone was pretty worn out by this point, so after eating, they just wanted to head home. Lucas and Eric played Minecraft together, Alex and Ryder played and then Alex almost broke a Yes Day rule.
She felt sick, in fact she spent a little time in the bathroom, sure she was going to throw up.
Thankfully nothing ever came of it, but she and I just stayed home and took it easy while the boys went to the neighborhood party.
At the end of the night she said "so this is why you don't let me eat treats all day."
Yes, Alex, yes indeed.
Another great Yes Day, (other than Alex getting sick) that actually was pretty similar to the year before. It goes to show that kids definitely learn to like certain things and that really often little simple things can mean a lot to them. Oh and that you will feel sick if you eat too many treats in a day.
Have you ever had a Yes Day?
I really love this idea and I want to implement it with my family before school starts. So awesome!!
ReplyDeleteWe had our first yes day this year on the first Saturday of the summer. My kids didn't really get the concept of we will say yes to anything. They asked for eggs and blueberries for breakfast and they wanted to go to the pool. We figured they would want to do more than swim but we were wrong. We spent the entire day at the pool before we left for dinner -they picked Macaroni Grill for dinner. It was a great day and something tells me they're going to ask for more things next year.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun day and it sounds like Alex learned a pretty good lesson. I have a feeling we'll be seeing the Planes movie pretty soon. Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThat's SUCH a good idea! More household need to have a Yes-Day! I'll definitely make this happen at our place when our baby is old enough :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! It really is fun, especially since often in parenting it feels like you have to say no a lot.
DeleteI love love love the idea of a yes day! I remember when you did this last year and I really wanted to do this with the boys but I totally forgot. I'll have to write this down in my planner and make sure that it happens this year :D I'm glad the kids had such a great time other than Alex not feeling well at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteYes, once you do it, i can guarantee the boys will help you remember :)
DeleteI think this a wonderful idea! I want to try this!
ReplyDeleteYou should, especially as your boys get older, though you could probably even try it now, maybe just half a day or a smaller scale for now :)
DeleteSo awesome that Eric got to share in the day with you guys, especially with his crazy work hours he had this summer. I now need to go read the rules...
