The Awakening
Kyler Birkwood was raised on a farm by his Aunt Martha, Kyler has no clue about the magical heritage swimming through his blood. When he discovers evidence of a mythical creature, a terrifying beast thought only to exist in fairy tales, his safe world shatters. Left at a school of magic to hunt for clues, he is overwhelmed and disbelieved. As loved ones begin disappearing and Orcs roam the land, Kyler must undergo a journey that takes him from the High Courts of the King to the unknown forests of the East. His magic just awakening, Kyler is the lone hope for a world that will not listen.
My Review:
This book, written for pre-teens on up was a quick fun read. I enjoyed the world of magic and fantasy that the author created. The characters feel like real teenagers, with their thoughts and self-doubts. While some of the themes of the book may seem similar to other stories, this story felt unique and had me quickly turning the pages to find out what would happen next.
As the book was coming to an end I almost began to wonder if the author was going to be able to conclude the story nicely with how few pages were left, but she did the end justice and it felt wrapped up.
I think this book would be great for younger readers as even though it deals with wars, evil creatures, etc. it is written so that it never feels too dark.
I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it.
