Swingy- Bringing Game Playing and Balance Together

My kids all love playing iPad.  Sometimes a little too much.  I definitely try and limit their screen time; but it seems almost inevitable that they will play.

That is why I love finding great Apps that do more than just entertain; Apps to practice math, learn sight words, etc. and now thanks to Swingy, even practicing balance and posture.

Swingy is the world's first wireless balance board for playing games on tablets and smartphones.

My family was given a Swingy Set to review.  When we got our Swingy set in the mail, I was very impressed with the quality in which they are made.   They are made of solid wood and have a fun character (new designs coming soon) the wood is so smooth.

The swingy is designed for children ages 4 to 12, but I tried it and felt like it would support me just fine; even my husband has tried it.

It was easy to pair the swingy's with my iPad, though I will confess, I jumped the gun on the instructions (i.e. I just started without reading the instructions) and so had to switch the sensors to get the left and right foot correct.

But they were soon working great and the kids were lining up to get their turns.

Currently there is a classic pong game; you rock your feet forwards or backwards to move the bars.  It works really well and just the slightest movement is needed to move the bars.  When I first tried it I made one of my kids stand close by as apparently my balance isn't that great, but with a few more times playing, it was much easier.
Using the Swingy

Lucas and Alex just jumped right on and did great.  I love that they even held the iPad for their sibling and were laughing and playing together.

Ryder, who is 5-years-old, didn't want to play the game but wanted to just try balancing; it was a little difficult for him at first but he quickly got the hang of it and just balances and rocks back and forth for fun.

The makers of Swingy cooperated with doctors, teachers, and exercise physiologists to develop Swingy. With its curved form and back and forth movement, Swingy strengthens the core muscles required for a healthy posture and improves balance and coordination. Improving balance helps children in everyday life as well as at sports such as rollerblading, biking, skating, climbing, and skiing.

The Swingy is launching on Kickstarter today!

Disclosure: I was given a Swingy in exchange for my honest review and opinion.
