That's it, it would be simple.
Would it offend me as a Christian if someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah? Not at all, in fact it would be nice just to have someone talk to me in a store as most people are so caught up in their own little worlds they don't even acknowledge those around them.

Don't get me wrong, I want my kids to love all and I love that my kids are colorblind- I even wrote about it once, but I am getting so tired of having to hide one's beliefs, or feelings or opinions as it might hurt someone's feelings. Oh and I probably should have begun this post with a warning about "Trigger words". The fact that that is even a thing, just begins to show what is wrong with society.
It is our differences in beliefs, our differences in traditions that help us learn who we are. When I got a knock on my door from a certain religion that loves to knock doors (other than my own of course) I stand there nicely and talk with them. In fact, as I have read some of their literature, it has made me appreciate my own faith and beliefs even more. It does not offend me that they teach something different, believe something different; it doesn't hurt me in anyway, it strengthens me.
Life is hard. In life we will not always be treated fairly, always treated right- I wish it wasn't that way. But in life if we are good decent people, who work hard, who try to serve and help others and who do not expect things to be handed to us, then chances are we will have some success in life, maybe even peace and happiness.
So this Christmas season, or excuse me, 'Holiday Season', when cashiers wish me a Happy Holidays, I am not going to get all huffy or offended, I will simply say, "thank you and a Merry Christmas to you".
Amen! I feel like we have to be so PC nowadays that our own beliefs get pushed to the side. I'm with you though. For us, we will say Merry Christmas and show God's love to everyone around us because to me, that's the true reason for the season.
ReplyDeleteYes! Just because I believe something and feel something doesn’t mean I am trying to push what someone else may believe aside.
DeleteI will never forget the woman who yelled at me when I wished her a Merry Christmas... I was a Target cashier and I had just rung up her order, which was full of Santa wrapping paper, Christmas lights, etc. I feel like it's never meant to be a confrontational thing but if you're buying all the Christmas things and then don't want someone wishing you a Merry Christmas, then I don't even know what to say.
ReplyDeletePC-ness confuses me.
Wow, I can’t believe someone would yell at you for that! PC-ness confuses and irritates me too.
DeleteI was at a mall the other day, standing on the sidewalk waiting for Chris. An old couple came by, getting ready to cross the drive way to go to the parking lot. The wife stopped, looked right at me and said, "Merry Christmas!" And then her husband quickly joined her. I was so thrilled, I thanked them profusely and said, "And Merry Christmas to you too!"
ReplyDeleteSee! That is what I mean. If people would just take more time to say hi, to be pleasant, life would be a lot better!
DeleteI'm with you - I wish people a Merry Christmas but I would not be offended if they wished me a Happy Hannukah, or whatever their beliefs lead them to say. Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays... if it makes you better to say that to include everyone, then I'm cool with that too. But I say Merry Christmas, and I won't ever change that. :)
ReplyDeleteExactly! I hate that people have become almost afraid to say it, it isn’t an offensive thing to say!
DeleteI am completely with you! I'm going to share this! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI love this! You read my mind on how society is quick to get their feelings hurt over someone inadvertently saying the wrong greeting.
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's funny because when I hear Happy Holidays, it makes me think that the person is saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I never really understood the getting all bent out of a shape about it. There are a lot of holidays this month and next, and I even include Thanksgiving in that holiday season. I agree with you-I would definitely not get offended if someone wished me a Happy Kwanza, Hannukah, or even Happy Festivus! ;-) I just love this time of year!
ReplyDeleteNicely put!
