A Yes Day: A Back to School Tradition

This last Saturday we had one of our favorite back to school traditions, our Yes Day.  Yes Day is a day that the answer to every question is Yes!

Now before you think we are totally crazy, there are rules going into Yes Day.



The Yes Day Rules

• Money limit: We set a limit as to how much money can be spent that day; if their requests were going to be more than that, then it does not qualify.
• Money must be spent equally.
• No fighting, arguing or whining or yes day will end.
• Everyone must agree on what things we are doing, each person can have a turn picking their favorite but all have to agree.
• Nothing is allowed that will make you sick-- i.e. if you eat ice cream at every meal you also need to eat something healthy
• Only the answer "yes" is allowed
• The Yes Day will end at the designated time, no asking if Yes Day can go on forever. 
• Have fun!

Our Yes Day 2016

   This year due to some crazy schedules, our Yes Day was a couple of weeks before school started.   Ryder was especially excited about the day.  

At 7:00 A.M. Alex and Ryder came into our room asking if we could get up, which of course we had to answer yes.  

It was then off to donuts for breakfast. 

 They were asking for 5 donuts each; this is where the money rule can come in handy, as we pointed out how much money that would take if we bought that many donuts.  So we didn't break the rules by saying no, but helped them settle on 3 each on their own.  

We then went an saw the new Ice Age movie, I really wanted to see the Secret Life of Pets- but this is their day, so we saw what they wanted.

After the movie we wandered around the mall and stopped at the Apple Store.  My husband secretly convinced Lucas to ask me if we could stop there and of course I had to say yes,

Next stop was a candy store at the mall where everyone picked out a small bag of candy.  

Followed by lunch at The Blaze Pizza.

Then you will never guess what happened next, they asked if we could go home and just hang out.  Our full morning exhausted them by 1:00.   We went home, played games and just hung out.

Every year that we have done this (this is our 4th year), I am always amazed at how simple the day becomes in a lot of ways.  Lucas is still excited about it, but definitely not as much as he used to be, but Ryder was literally counting down the days.  This is a tradition that we will continue to keep around for a few more years.
